Subtle signs of anxiety

Most everybody experiences some anxiety in one form or another during their life. And if it is a fleeting thing that only happens once or twice, it is nothing to be too concerned about. But when it happens frequently and starts to interfere with your daily routine of life, then it is time to intervene. But how do you know if you have anxiety or something else? Some of the signs are obvious and is the topic of the next lesson, but some are more subtle; in fact you may not even recognize them as signs of anxiety. Let’s look at a few of them:

  • A need for details – lots of details
  • Trouble making decisions
  • Avoiding things like people, places or anything unfamiliar
  • The tendency toward overgeneralization – interpreting safe situations as unsafe
  • The need to leave a place when deemed unsafe when it really isn’t unsafe at all
  • Digestive issues such as constipation, diarrhea or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Having the appearance of being aloof, disinterested or indifferent
