Men can be their own worst enemies when it comes to their health. As a gender, they have a reputation for excessively complaining about matters that are considered to be relatively minor, or at least not life-threatening (man-flu, we’re looking at you).
However, they are very often inclined to not share deeper problems with even their nearest and dearest, and certainly not outside the home. Most men were raised ‘to be men’, and not being able to ‘handle it’ is too often self-perceived as a weakness.
In the interests of moving forward as a species, that attitude needs some modification. Denial, and not seeking help or understanding doesn’t make the problem go away, in almost all cases, the earlier the intervention, the better the outcome.
It is certainly understandable why men might avoid sharing or even acknowledging their particular problems, as the areas of concern usually relate to areas which they feel define their masculinity.
